2010 Commemoration of the Battle of Plattsburgh

Each year on the second weekend of September, Plattsburgh and the surrounding area echo to the sound of musket and cannon fire as re-enactors in period dress from the United States and Canada lock horns in re-enactments of the 1814 Battle.




See life as it was really lived by the soldiers and their families at the authentic 1814 Encampment.

Join with us at Dewey's Tavern, Culver Hill, Halsey's Corners, Riverside Cemetery or Crab Island to honor the British and American combatants killed in both land and naval battles.
Friday night concert with Beartracks, performing roots country, blue grass and Americana music. The US. Navy Band plays a short concert of patriotic and popular music, followed by a spectacular half hour barage of aerial shells and special effects.
Quaff some ale and eat shepherd’s pie at Israel Green’s Tavern while enjoying early American foot-tapping tunes.
Kids love the period games, the kid's muster with toy muskets and marching in their own special parade.
Come and enjoy and old fashioned parade with marching bands, fife and drums corps, marching units and historic-themed floats, followed by a spectacular, hour-long musical beat retreat ceremony in front of City Hall.
A whole week of concerts! Start on Monday with Towne Meeting at the Episcopal Church, After Five Brass on Tuesday at City Hall Rotunda, Zip City on Wednesday at the Episcopal Church , the U.S. Navy Band on Thursday at Stafford Middle School and Her Majesty’s Royal Marine Band of Cobourg, Ontario on Saturday at the Stafford Middle School. There is also an evening of period music and English Country Dance at the Macomb Fancy Dress Ball at St. Peter's School on Saturday.
Watch the Battle of Plattsburgh Challenge Cup; compete for ribbons and prizes in the popular Cannonball Fun Run or create a multi-media sculpture for the Plucky Rooster Contest. You may even win some money at the Roducky Derby and take part the the Rotary Club Bed Race.

John R. Grodzinski is an assistant professor of history at the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario. John is also editor of the on-line War of 1812 Magazine and frequently conducts battlefield tours for military and civilian personnel that focus on the War of 1812.
Dr. Grodziinski will be speaking on the Defending the Canadas: Sir George Prevost and the British Offensive Against Plattsburgh, 1814.

Donald E. Graves is a staff historian with the Department of National Defence of Canada. He is an internationally-renowned expert on the War of 1812 and the author of six books dealing with that conflict, including two volumes of the trilogy, "Forgotten Soldiers: The War of 1812 in the North." He is currently writing the third and final volume which will deal with the last major battles in the north, including Plattsburgh.
His talk is entitled: ‘The Redcoats are Coming!’ An Analysis of Lieutenant-General Sir George Prevost's Army in September 1814
